Fence Progress – March 24, 2011

Willie and Martín arrived yesterday and did some fence post work. Since we’re building our fence up against the neighbor’s falling-down janky fence, we have to pre-stain some of the wood. That’s where I come in to play! I helped pre-stain last night’s fence posts and followed up on the already-cemented posts, staining the remaining… Continue reading Fence Progress – March 24, 2011

Fence Update – March 21, 2011

We have contracted with Erin’s co-workers (who work full-time jobs, so they work when they can) to build a fence. I will post pictures as work continues over the next few weeks. Hopefully, we’ll have it completed sooner than later. Since we’re using our part-time contractors, the project will take longer. Grilled Artichokes

I followed Simple Foodie’s recipe for making grilled artichokes and they were delicious. And the basil aioli was fantastic. Super easy. I will not mention the other dishes that I made – that would borderline on near-redneck.  Just focus on the grilled artichokes for now.

The weather is warming up (actually supposed to reach… Continue reading Home Grown Tomatoes

The Cedars Social

Nima and I went the check out The Cedars Social, a new bar near South Side on Lamar. It has a throwback, 50s / 60s feel going on. The drinks were good and the people were super nice. This is my new favorite place in the Lamar district.

Succulents 2.0

Some time during the two mega ice storms, we lost our succulent plants. It’s sad to see any plants keel over. We had them covered with a towel, but our plants lost the battle to the bitter cold. We are still figuring out what to bring inside when it freezes. Rookie move! Nevertheless, I have… Continue reading Succulents 2.0

Potato Chips

A mandoline has sat quietly on my wish list for a long time now. And while Erin and I were out and about yesterday, I scoped this simple V-shaped mandoline at World Market for TEN dollars. That’s right. Ten dollars – that’s it! After a store run, I decided to try out my new toy… Continue reading Potato Chips
